Satellite Update...
Our Satellite network owner, LightSquared is moving into a very exciting and busy period following the successful launch and deployment of the SkyTerra-1 satellite. Their satellite team will be starting an extensive In Orbit Testing (IOT) period at the end of December / early January and we wanted to share some of the details surrounding this plan.
In Orbit Testing means that all aspects of the new satellite and supporting ground systems will be checked and tested over the next few weeks. This testing will confirm that all the new systems are working as intended and is a crucial step in moving forward towards new services and capabilities.
In Orbit Testing (IOT) is scheduled to be approximately a one month period but this duration will be adjusted to ensure all tests are completed to the satisfaction of the Lightsquared Space Systems and Operations teams.
The initial tests ( to be completed during the first 3 days of IOT) will be much longer in duration and will last up to eight (8) hours and will be run during the early morning hours between 00:00 and 08:00 Eastern time. The next set of tests (to be completed during the remaining duration of IOT) will be shorter in duration but still longer than our standard maintenance window. These tests will again be run during the early morning hours between 00:00 and 06:00 Eastern time.
As a result Glentel's end users may experience periods of service degradation or complete outage during these testing windows but the impact will vary by product and location.
- 1. Initial Testing to verify satellite health - tentatively scheduled to start on January 5th 2011.
- 2. Secondary testing - tentatively scheduled for throughout the month of January.
The complicated test schedule for In Orbit Testing will result in LightSquared nor Glentel not being able to provide the normal 10 business days notice of an upcoming service effecting maintenance window. These tests may not be on Sunday mornings. As soon as the test schedules have been finalized we will advise you.
We appreciate your patience as LightSquared and Glentel prepare the new satellite for service. If you have questions about the SkyTerra-1 satellite please contact us.

Thank you for your continued support.
